Veeram (வீரம் English: Courage) is an Tamil action masala movie directed by Siva and produced by Vijaya Productions. The film features Ajith Kumar and Tamannaah in the lead roles, while an ensemble supporting cast includes Vidharth, Santhanam, Suza Kumar and Abhinaya amongst others. Pre-production work has been ongoing since December 2011, with the shoot ultimately starting in April 2013. The potential collaboration between Vijaya Productions and Ajith Kumar was reported in November 2011, with speculations suggesting that Venkata Ramana Reddy wanted to commemorate his late father B. Nagi Reddy's 100th year since birth with a film project. Siva, who had made his debut in Tamil films with the successful 2011 film Siruthai was noted as a potential candidate to direct the film, while Anushka Shetty was initially reported to play the female lead role.  Subsequently in early December 2011, Ajith signed on to play the lead role in the venture, with a poster released confirming Siva's participation, noting that Vetri and Yuvan Shankar Raja would be cinematographer and music composer for the venture respectively.

 Devi Sri Prasad later replaced Yuvan, while Kasi Vishwanathan was signed as editor and Boopathy Raja as story writer. Production for the film was put on hold until Ajith completed Chakri Toleti's Billa 2 and most of his other ongoing project directed by Vishnuvardhan. Casting Alongside Ajith, it was noted that four young actors would appear as his brothers in the venture. Vidharth, who rose to fame with his role in Mynaa was signed on for the film after discussions with Prasanna were unsuccessful. Suhail Chandhok, brother of former Formula One racer Karun Chandhok, was signed on for a role after e Ajith was impressed with a short film that Suhail had featured in. Munish, who appeared in Naanga, and Bala were also selected to play Ajith's brothers. Santhanam, who featured in a pivotal role in Siva's previous film, was also chosen to play a supporting role in the film. Tamannaah was chosen to play Ajith's pair in the film, marking her comeback to Tamil films after a three year sabbatical. Vishakha Singh was approached to play Vidharth's pair in the film but her refusal subsequently meant the producers opted for Manochitra, who was previously seen in Aval Peyar Thamizharasi (2010), while Abhinaya was signed for another lead role. Vidyullekha Raman, was signed to be Santhanam's pair for a third film. Jayaprakash, Jayaram and Rajeev Govinda Pillai were also initially reported to be a part of the cast, though a later press release did not confirm their participation. Filming A press note was released on 4 April 2013 announcing the start of the filming stage of the project, whilst also clarifying the cast and crew. John Day is a bank manager of Royal Citizen Co-operative Bank and lives with his wife Maria Day. The couple has recently lost their only daughter in a forest fire accident while she was on a trip with her boyfriend. Maria is always depressed and never opens up with anyone. One day when John is away for office work, a courier-boy enters the house and takes Maria as a captive. He then calls up John informing him about his wife is a hostage and tells him that a man will visit him at his bank and John has to do his work. It is shown that actually it was a planned bank heist where the visitor gagged John, opened up the cash locker and fled, meanwhile the kidnapper hammered Maria causing her a serious brain damage and she got admitted to the hospital in a state of coma.
The news spread like wildfire in all TV channels. An impatient and short tempered Police Officer Gautam (Randeep Hooda)is shocked and calls his girlfriend Tabassum to collect a very important document stored in a locker of the bank. Inside the bank, the bank authorities in the presence of the police are giving away claims to bank customers, when Tabassum approaches and claims her documents which are revealed to be some property papers called "CASABLANCA ESTATES". This surprises John Day and he follows the duo in his car and observes them depositing the file in a government property office. John bribes the office personnel and procures the original Casablanca files and investigates.
During his investigation he comes to know that police Officer Gautam is also in pursuit of the files and wants to sell them to a Mafia based organization in Dubai. Gautam is under pressure from the Mafia to handover the original documents of "Casablanca Estates". John vows to take revenge on the people who has injured his wife and actually eliminates all the informants including the kidnapper, the bank robbers and others involved. He then takes Tabassum as a captive and calls Gautam and another powerful Mafia Khan Saab(Sharat Saxena) at Gautam's place and there the truth is revealed.
Casablanca estate is nothing but 500 acres of forest land being acquired illegally on papers by Mafia Lord Khaan Saab and Dubai based Al Hunain along with the help of Police Officer Gautam who works for Khan. They had acquired the land, registered it with the insurance company and then set fire to the place in order to get heavy compensation. It was revealed that on that fateful day when the fire erupted John Day's daughter was there for a jungle trip and perished in the same.
Meanwhile Gautam has a plan to sell the papers for billions to the Dubai based AG group and settling with his girlfriend abroad. When Khan is about to shoot Gautam for his treachery Tabassum opens fire to save him. An ensuing shoot out occurs in the room and results in Tabassum being killed, Khan and his associates badly wounded and finally, Gautam getting shot multiple times by John. John then shoots Khan Saab too. Later he is shown weeping at the graves of his daughter and wife. The film ends with a Biblical quote by Mark "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Mark 8:36".

Movie Review

One of the biggest movie events of the year was unveiled for the public’s viewing pleasure today morning. Arrambam, directed by Vishnuvardhan, has a lot going for it and has it satiated the appetite of countless Ajith fanatics?
Right from frame one, it is clear that Ashok Kumar (Ajith) is a man on a mission and one who is hell bent on exposing the people behind an ugly scam and bringing them to book. He has his comrades who will go to any lengths for him and help him in his operation.
Director Vishnuvardhan, writer duo Subha and editor Sreekar Prasad have to be commended for managing to keep the audiences hooked to their seats for a majority of the movie with very few drag moments. With a running time of more than two and a half hours, the screenplay is taut and crisp enough to keep the crowd arrested.
The large mass of Ajith fans have plenty of moments to scream and whistle in delight. Ajith’s screen presence is mighty as ever, and his classy salt and pepper looks and V neck T shirts suit his character’s mean streak. The star’s prowess at stunts and his knack of taking risks for the stunt scenes is all too well-known and when he dives out of a van onto an approaching car and zooms around in a Ducati, the entire crowd rises in unison to clap. Even some of Ajith’s subtle gestures, his gait and his typical shades delight his fans.
Arya is energetic and spunky as ever and has done his part well. Watch out for a little part where Arya will throw you off your seats with his appearance. His light-hearted comments at apt moments bring about a few chuckles. Taapsee is referred to as the ‘drama queen’ and she is sure to make a few hearts melt as the girly journalist. Nayanthara puts on a fiery face when required and also showcases her oomph and style in many scenes. This superstar continues to shine. Kishore as the honest cop is earnest as ever while Mahesh Manjrekar’s histrionics are a welcome introduction to Tamil audiences.
Rana’s portion in the second half is a highlight and there is one arresting sequence featuring him and Ajith, which is sure to grip the audiences. Great work on this segment particularly.
Among the movie’s few slack moments include the ‘Stylish Thamizhachi’ number featuring Akshara Gowda. The ‘Adada Arrambame’ number, though a crowd pleaser and flamboyantly picturized, stands out a bit sorely at the start. ‘Melala Vedikkudhu’ takes the cake as the best song sequence and it’s a riot of colours and revelry as the actors dance merrily for Holi. ‘Hare Rama’ isn’t to be seen in the movie. Arya and Taapsee feature in 'En Fuse Pochu' and few nice effects embellish the song.
Yuvan’s work on the BGM doesn’t demand your attention as much as it did in Mankatha and Billa. But still, he has added enough muscle to the tension and action in the movie with his score. Om Prakash’s work on the camera befits the movie’s stature as a slick and glossy commercial action entertainer.
The stunt choreographers, Jegan, Kecha and Lee Whittaker, take the credit for the numerous action set pieces and it is slam bam all the way. The climax sequence and the boat chase are racy.
Being a commercial movie, you have to suspend disbelief and not look for too much logic and reasoning. There are a few sudden jumps in the movie’s flow and its better not to question them too much, and just enjoy the bond type commercial offering from Ajith.
Kudos to the Arrambam team for managing to live up to the Himalayan hype with an action flick which packs enough punch.
